Join for a discussion of The Irish Goodbye - a novel ( 2025) by Heather Aimee O'Neill

Register by June 15 at midnight, if possible. It helps us plan!

This popular novel addresses themes of family relations, grief, death, aging, sisterhood, LGBTQ acceptance, and the experience of Catholic Americans. Overview.

What to expect: Introductions, some updates for book readers, including an overview of other books we’re reading (see Cornell’s home page) and a  delicious, casual dining experience at one of DC’s freshest and most inviting Japanese-themed destinations with  ramen, sushi, and other favorites — all reasonably priced.

Bonus: we’ll spend a few minutes seeing who has read this important study of Veterans’ needs. How does it relate to Cornellians?

Also, discuss who might join BIG RED READS linked here for discussions with other Cornell alumni (see sign-up for the online discussions) and how the books you select there might be enjoyed in face-to-face meetings here in the DMV

Love, Makoto features five unique dining areas and ours is in the “way back” beyond the bar where each guest will place and pay for their own order directly at the convenient self-service kiosks using a credit card.

Metro: Red Line - Judiciary Square. It is located near the Georgetown Law Center.

Parking: Guests can self-park or use the garage under the building next door, 250 Massachusetts Ave. NW. The entrance to the garage is on 3rd and G Streets NW.

Should weather or other conditions suggest canceling, you can check this page for late-breaking changes: https://sites.google.com/view/ccw-event-details/logistics

See the young Nationals play the Philadelphia Phillies

Both the Nationals and the Phillies started the season slowly, but lately have been some of the hottest teams in baseball.    The National offense leads the Majors in runs scored.  James Wood and C.J. Abrams lead the lineup, but are joined by a group of rising players.  And pitching has improved to help the team back to 500.

The Phillies are a division rival and feature a number of stars including former Nationals Bryce Harper (2 time MVP), Trea Turner (last year's NL batting champ) and Kyle Schwarber (current NL home runs leaders).  Phillies pitching has always had headliners like Zach Wheeler.  Now joined by the spectacular Cristopher Sánchez, who just completed a 50.2 scoreless  innings streak, 3rd all-time and most ever by a lefthander.

Come join other Cornellians in a great night at the ballpark.

    Tickets: Outfield Reserve (Section 104) - $39 members, $47 non-members

After a decades‑long hiatus, we are thrilled to bring back a premier, nottobemissed Cornell Scholarship Gala — an evening that will celebrate our DC–Cornell legacy and rally our community around an audacious goal: raising at least $100,000 to support deserving DCarea students.

This is more than a gala. It’s a moment to stand together and expand the pipeline of Big Red talent from the nation’s capital.

    A Legacy Worth Lifting

From Cornell in Washington to the University’s Government Relations presence, the connection between Cornell and the Metropolitan Washington, DC region has always been vibrant and deeply rooted.

A cornerstone of that connection is the endowed scholarships supporting sophomores, juniors, and seniors from our region — honoring proud Cornellians Howard Epstein ’58, Law ’61; Austin Kiplinger ’39; Robert McKinless ’48; and Robert Ladd ’43.

These funds exist because alumni stepped up. Now it’s our turn to build on that legacy.

    How You Can Get Involved

Your participation is essential to reaching — and exceeding — our goal.

    • Attend! Tickets will be released soon.
    • Bring your people! Rally your class year, your CBAA network, your affinity group — fill a table with Big Red spirit.
    • Sponsor! Corporate, family, individual, affinity — sponsorships are the engine of our fundraising success.
    • Activate your network! Encourage Cornellians and Cornell‑owned businesses to sponsor or attend.
    • Lend your leadership! We’re seeking volunteers for event planning, sponsorship outreach, live auction curation, and a recent‑graduate committee.
