Explore DC Happy Hour Series – Renegade at Clarendon (05/27/2026)

Join us for a happy hour at Renegade at Clarendon as part of our Explore DC Happy Hour Series! In 2026, CCW will host a monthly happy hour in a different neighborhood of the DMV (DC/Maryland/Virginia) area.

We will convene at Renegade in Arlington ( https://renegadeva.com/), at the upstairs bar at 6 PM. Renegade is located at 3100 Clarendon Boulevard, Arlington, VA 22201.

Interest Meeting: Self-nominate to serve CCW on Board, Committees

Board of Directors election is coming! The Cornell Club of Washington has opportunities for new graduates and all club members to join our Board of Directors or serve on one of our interesting committees. Don’t know what it could mean for you? Come to an interest meeting before June 4. (You’ll meet who else is keen!)

· May 27 – come early or stay late at CCW’s EXPLORE DC happy hour in Clarendon
· June 2, 12:00 noon (your lunch break) on Zoom (40 min)
· June 3, at 7:30 pm on Zoom (40 min)

What to expect: We’ll discuss all the benefits of becoming a member of CCW’s Board of Directors or joining a club committee. Chuck and Maggie will be curious to know how such service with our other great volunteers would meet your needs. For example, motivation might be to

· socialize and meet more Cornellians,
· provide valuable community service and community BUILDING in the DMV,
· network for business contacts,
· set up all kinds of events that draw critical mass for group discounts—cultural, social, athletic, educational.
· Without question, service on the Board can help build your resume,
· learn about resources in the DMV,
· and enliven “stay at home” or retirement years.
· It will deepen your relationship to our Alma Mater and the Cornell Community of learners.

Hike Rock Creek Park to the Nature Center and Thai Lunch (06/06/2026)

Join the Ivy Social Club, Princeton Club, Class of 80, and Bruce McBarnette (Princeton Club) on a hike on at Rock Creek Park, followed by thai food lunch.

Schedule -

9:30am: We will meet at Thai Pad at 4481 Connecticut Ave. We will hike in Rock Creek Park to the Nature Center and Planetarium and back. The hike will be a moderate 5 miles. Please bring water and footwear that supports your ankles. Guests must be 18 years of age or older.

1:45pm: We will go to Thai Pad Restaurant, 4481 Connecticut Ave. Bruce will treat everyone to chicken pad thai appetizers. You will pay for anything else you order on a separate tab.

There is free parking along Connecticut Avenue and free parking west of Connecticut along Albemarle Street, which is the closest cross street.

Bring your beverage of choice and make friends with Cornellians from all around the world! Join Cornellians across the generations: from recent graduates to those who are now grandparents to Cornellians.

Mingle in small discussion groups centered around Cornell-related themes. Share your favorite spots in Collegetown, reminisce on the festivities of Spring/Slope Day, and learn how Cornell has changed over the decades.

We will use Zoom video chat and split everyone into small breakout rooms, so everyone has a chance to talk and share with just a few people. Everyone will get rotated around, so you will meet many Cornellians through the mixer.

Where: National Mall

See who's wearing Big Red gear to show up at the 7th Street and Independence Ave, SW spinny sculpture between the Hirshhorn Museum and Air and Space Museum. Learn about who in our group might run the Marine Corps Marathon for Stop Soldier Suicide this year. It’s a GREAT CAUSE and the organization is passing out 75 bibs. This could be your marathon year!

After introductions and announcements, we divide into groups according to the choice of the trail suitable to your goals for the day. See the 3 trails on our map at the web page.

Parking: Use ParkMobile after 8 am to pay for parking on Independence Ave. Or use the L'Enfant Plaza Metro.

After over 10 years of operation at 20th and Q Streets, Q Street Fine Art and the Studio of Rafael Gallardo relocated to a new site at 1 Saint Matthew’s Court, NW, DC in a historic Carriage House, one of the few remaining here.

Hors d’oeuvres and bar (wine, beer, soda, water)

All alumni and students are welcome to join the Cornell Club of Maryland for this summer staple event. This beloved Maryland tradition will be filled with family, friends, and fun for all ages.

Cornellians will have even more space, games, and family fun than ever before!

Celebrate with us in our brand new location at Circle D Farm. Beyond the feast in the outdoor covered pavilion, Cornellians will have access to a volleyball court, softball/kickball field, mini golf, and more.

Worried about the heat? Go for a swim! Lifeguards and pool access will be available from start to finish of the event.

Registration includes: Steamed crabs and 3 hours of all you can eat hamburgers, beef hot dogs, vegetarian beans, rolls, potato chips, potato salad, macaroni salad, coleslaw, and soft drinks. Dessert will be provided. Veggie burgers are available upon request.

Hike through Rock Creek Park to the Zoo. Enjoy Vietnamese lunch and a free energy session.

Join the Ivy Social Club, Princeton Club, NYU alumni, Class of 80, and Bruce McBarnette on a free hike through Rock Creek Park to the National Zoo, followed by lunch at Thai Pad Restaurant.

Guests must be 18 years of age or older.

Schedule -

10:00 AM: We will meet in front of Pad Thai at 4481 Connecticut Ave. and hike to the National Zoo. The hike will be an easy 5 mile hike. Please bring water and footwear that supports your ankles.

Pad Thai is two block north of the Van Ness Metro. Free street parking is available along the Albemarle Street, which is the closest cross street to the Pad Thai.
