The Ivy Social Club has a small block of tickets for "1776" at Ford's Theater.

This popular American musical is an insightful, vibrant and humorous take on our founding fathers’ determination to do the right thing for their fledgling nation.

As members of the Second Continental Congress struggle to reach consensus, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson argue for independence from the British monarchy. The ensuing debates defined our country. As we explore this historical moment through the evolving identity of America today, this robust, award-winning musical boldly brings our country’s beginnings to blazing life.

The Amazing Race, Cornell Style - Cancelled (05/09/2026)

Saturday, May 9 (Mother's Day Weekend)

Cost: $12 per participant (non-refundable and necessary for our "prize" budget).

Sign in at 10 am, Race starts at 10:30 am, ends with happy hour around 4:30. Explore our options to join for fewer hours, narrowing to midday.

Location: Alexandria Old Town-- King Street, Waterfront, several stations around town

Registration will be limited to the first 80 participants (who will be grouped into squads of about 4) when our link goes live. First come, first served. (Registration coming soon!)

Watch for interest meetings that support squad-building across the spring, including at a table at Feb. 19 Happy Hour (Bethesda's World of Beer), another Happy Hour on March 11 at Mr. Henry's, and a morning Zoom information session in April TBD. (Squad Captains select just one interest meeting to attend.)

Family friendly event, dog-friendly for parts, fun for people of all ages and nothing too physically demanding unless you are hard-core. You WILL want to wear sneakers for comfort and some "rushing around" or jumping up and down with uncontainable excitement.

Who? Cornell Club Members who become Squad Captains may invite non-Cornell Club members such as spouses, kiddos, significant others, friends, onto their squads. Individuals who are Cornell Club members who seek squads to join will be matched to others with the help of TAR organizers.

What to expect: Join for a multi-hour event fashioned on the television reality show The Amazing Race (see Season 8 if you can.) It will be a day of fun competition between 3-6 member squads. Just like the show, it will have some "rushing around," some problem-solving, scavenger-hunting, culture/history learning, obstacles, alliance-building, alliance-betraying, cut-throat strategy, and will include a community service activity that supports Stroke Smart. Annnnnnnnd just like the TV show, the winners of the race will get 1 meeeeeeeeeelion dollars!

Think about whom you'd invite to compete with you as part of your Squad. Organizers can assist to put you onto a squad if you don't have a group of 3-4 to register together already. The event will make you fast friends! We'll be helping form teams at each Interest Meeting this Spring.)

Mingle in small discussion groups centered around Cornell-related themes. Share your favorite spots in Collegetown, reminisce on the festivities of Spring/Slope Day, and learn how Cornell has changed over the decades.

We will use Zoom video chat and split everyone into small breakout rooms, so everyone has a chance to talk and share with just a few people. Everyone will get rotated around, so you will meet many Cornellians through the mixer.

Opening of the Hunter Rawlings Reading Room at Washington Latin's Cooper Campus (05/17/2026)

Dear Fellow Cornell Alumni and Friends of Cornell,

There are moments that remind us why we fell in love with learning in the first place. On Sunday, May 17th from 2:00 to 3:30 PM, Washington Latin Public Charter Schools invites you to one of those moments.

We are celebrating the opening of the Hunter Rawlings Reading Room at Washington Latin's Cooper Campus — a naming that honors the man who, as Cornell's president, championed the humanities with uncommon conviction and has been a steadfast advocate for Washington Latin's mission for more than a decade. Hunter himself will be present, and the occasion will bring together Cornell alumni, Latin community members, and friends who share a belief that rigorous, humanistic education belongs to every student — not just those who can afford to seek it out.

Hunter once said of Washington Latin's students: "It is not so much that these students need the humanities, but rather that the Humanities need these students." That sentence captures everything. We hope you'll come hear us reflect on that on a campus that will have a room that will bear his name.

This event is especially personal for the two of us. Between us, we have spent nearly three decades connected to this school — Bill in a variety of roles over the past 19 years, including as the Assistant Principal of the Anna Julia Cooper Campus for the past three, and Brad as a Latin parent for 8 — and we have both watched Hunter's influence shape the school's identity and its students' lives in ways that are difficult to overstate. We can think of few people more deserving of this honor, and few occasions for which it is more worthy to gather.

GETTING THERE

Limited on-site parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Street parking is available in the surrounding neighborhood, and a bus stop is conveniently located nearby. Rideshare drop-off is also an easy option. The campus is located at 4301 Harewood Road NE, Washington, DC 20017.

Join the Ivy Social Club, Princeton Club, Class of 80, and Bruce McBarnette (Princeton Club) on a hike on at Rock Creek Park, followed by thai food lunch.

Schedule -

9:30am: We will meet at Thai Pad at 4481 Connecticut Ave. We will hike in Rock Creek Park to the Nature Center and Planetarium and back. The hike will be a moderate 5 miles. Please bring water and footwear that supports your ankles. Guests must be 18 years of age or older.

1:45pm: We will go to Thai Pad Restaurant, 4481 Connecticut Ave. Bruce will treat everyone to chicken pad thai appetizers. You will pay for anything else you order on a separate tab.

There is free parking along Connecticut Avenue and free parking west of Connecticut along Albemarle Street, which is the closest cross street.
