POTOMAC PADDLE XXXIV (34)
Note - There is no online registration for this event. Please RSVP by email directly to Clint as indicated below.
The Cornell Club of Washington is resuming some of its regular outdoor events, beginning with Potomac Paddle XXXIV (34), our annual kayak/canoe event on the Potomac!
Join newly arrived Cornell in Washington students, Cornell alumni and family, and friends for a one-hour-long kayak or canoe paddle on the Potomac River, followed by recreation on the beautiful Georgetown waterfront. Come alone or with a friend; it is not necessary to come with a boat-mate. For our first hour, we’ll paddle upstream from Thompson Boat Center (TBC) in Georgetown to the northwest and then reverse course back to TBC. After the hour-long paddle, we will hang out at the adjacent Potomac waterfront. We will take in the views at the harbor, relax at Georgetown Waterfront Park, peruse the establishments at the Washington Harbour, or visit District Donut (3333 M St NW). You can bring your own picnic food or buy food there.
For the time on the water, be sure to bring your own sunscreen, hat, etc. You are encouraged to bring a zip-lock bag for any smart phone to prevent it from getting wet or lost in the river (a sealed bag will float!). Use of lifejackets is required (supplied by TBC as part of the rental). Swimmers only, please.
For the time afterwards, also bring picnic food/fluids or money to purchase food/fluids at nearby shops. Also bring a blanket to sit on and frisbee for lunchtime picnicking, playing, and lounging at the park.
Please note the time and location. We start promptly at 9:45 a.m. with registration for rentals, and rentals begin at 10 a.m. Please arrive on time (or before) to ensure availability of boats. The Cornell students and event organizer (Clint Brass) will be on the water no longer than one hour, but alumni and friends may stay on the water for a longer time if you wish.
