From our friends at the Cornell Club of Los Angeles...

Learn about the regulated cannabis markets in California and Los Angeles, common investing and exit business structures in a climate of federal prohibition and discuss the possibilities for change under Biden/Harris.

Jay Purcell A&S ’05, MA ’07 is a corporate and securities lawyer who represents California’s cultivators, manufacturers, distributors and retailers and the investors who back them. Trained in Silicon Valley, Jay offers extensive experience and sophistication advising cannabis businesses. In a rapidly changing environment, he delivers advice to cannabis companies and investors, regularly advising collectives/cooperatives and non-profit mutual/public benefit corporations on conversion and acquisition strategies. Most of his practice is dedicated to structuring transactions between licensees and investors in the context of evolving and aggressive regulations.

Prior to working in cannabis, Jay worked as a corporate attorney for tech companies. In 2016, he transitioned to a full-time cannabis practice, where the goal remains the same: helping little companies become big companies. In 2011, Jay graduated from Berkeley Law; in 2007, he graduated from Cornell University’s Graduate School where he received a master’s in Africana Students; and, in 2005, he graduated cum laude from Cornell University’s College of Arts and Sciences as a College Scholar.
