New York Avenue Men's Shelter provides emergency shelter every single night of the year. The shelter offers a hot meal, shower, place to stay off the streets, and access to a case manager. Beds are available on a first-come, first-served basis to some of our most vulnerable neighbors.
Join us to help us clean and maintain the inside of the shelter, while also cleaning up the perimeter of the property. Volunteers should wear closed-toe shoes, and long pants are recommended. Teen volunteers (ages 12 and up) accompanied by parents or guardians and with a signed parental waiver are welcome. All adult volunteers will sign the Catholic Charities standard liability waiver, confidentiality agreement, and media release when they sign in at the project.
Metro and Parking: The NOMA Gallaudet Metro Station is a little over a mile away, Street parking is available. There also is a paid parking deck above the MOM’s Organic Market (2 blocks east of the shelter).
