Cornellians in the DC area have the opportunity to be invited to a special screening of a new film entitled RE:THINKING at 7 PM on October 18 at the E Street Cinema.  This is the film's national release event, which will be attended by an invitation only audience of policy makers, educators, and education "influencers,"  followed by a panel discussion afterward.

The Producer/Director of RE:THINKING is Deborah C. Hoard (MPS '78), President of PhotoSynthesis Productions LLC in Ithaca, and a member of the President's Council of Cornell Women.

RE:THINKING was inspired by the work of Derek Cabrera (PhD ‘06) and Laura Cabrera (BS ‘93, MPA ‘95, PhD ‘98), who are both Professors at the Ithaca-based Systems Thinking Institute and visiting faculty at the Cornell Institute for Public Affairs.

The film follows three public schools over the course of three years, including Ithaca City School District’s own Lehman Alternative Community School, and asks the question, “What if we taught students HOW to think instead of WHAT to think?” The film shows the powerful, positive change that occurs when teachers and students work together to build knowledge instead of memorize information.
