Online Payments FAQ

To better serve its members, CCW has implemented online payment capabilities through PayPal (Who Is PayPal?). You can pay membership dues, buy event tickets, or make scholarship fund donations at the Cornell Club of Washington website using your credit or debit card, bank account, or PayPal balance.

Do I Need a PayPal Account?

No. You are not required to open a PayPal account to pay online, and if you prefer to pay as before by cash or check you are welcome to do so. This free service is provided solely as a convenience to our members.

You may find it more convenient to open a PayPal account, however, so you do not need to re-enter your contact and payment information with every purchase.

Are There Any Fees?

There are no fees or surcharges to you for paying online as opposed to paying by check, regardless of the number of events, memberships, or gifts. Refunds may be subject to a $5 processing fee, however.

How Does It Work?

Where online payment is available, you’ll see a box containing the order form with the PayPal logo.

  • For an event, use “Add to Cart” to choose the items you wish to purchase, and the list of all items you’ve selected will display in a new window or tab. When you’re ready to pay, select the “Proceed to Checkout” button on the bottom right of the Shopping Cart page.
  • For dues payments, choose the “Pay Now” button next to the type of membership you are registering for. You will automatically be brought to the Shopping Cart page.
  • For scholarship fund donations, enter the amount you with to give and click “Donate.” You will automatically be brought to the Shopping Car page.

If you have a PayPal account, you may then log in and complete the payment. If not, you may enter your contact information and card or bank payment details, and/or sign up for an account.

Once the payment is completed, you will receive an e-mail receipt from PayPal.

Is It Safe to Use?

The entire transaction process, from adding items to your cart to completing the payment, is encrypted for your privacy and security. Your requests are securely transmitted directly to PayPal; CCW never receives financial information such as the name of your bank or your card or account numbers.

Additionally, PayPal helps protect your credit card information with industry-leading security and fraud prevention systems. Visit the PayPal Security Center for more information.

Why Can’t I Pay Online for Certain Events?

CCW makes online payment available for membership, gifts, and events it hosts. Some events, however, are only publicized on this website, and not financially sponsored by the Club, so there is no mechanism to transmit the funds on your behalf. Note that some of CCW’s partners, such as CEN or the Cornell Club of Maryland, maintain their own online payment systems.

Who Is PayPal?

PayPal is a global leader in online payment solutions with more than 153 million accounts, available in 190 markets and 17 currencies around the world. Best known for making payments at eBay, its corporate parent, PayPal allows anyone to pay in any way they prefer, including through credit cards, bank accounts, buyer credit or account balances, without sharing financial information.
