Join the Big Red Dragons Dragonboat Racing
Every year, the Cornell Club of Washington competes in Washington's annual Dragon Boat Festival (www.dragonboatdc.com). The event is a colorful treat for spectators, a great day of fun for the whole family, and a celebration of Chinese culture. All our rowers are novices, but represent the university and alumni with pride, and have performed magnificently— including a division gold medal!
The 2011 D.C. Dragon Boat Festival will be held on the Potomac over the weekend of May 21-22. CCW has been able to secure great dates and times for its three practice sessions at the Anacostia Community Boathouse:
We are dedicating our recruiting to the memory of CCW member Julia Shew '75, a lifetime student of the Chinese language and a mainstay of the Big Red Dragons for the past several years.
We need 20 paddlers for each boat. The registration fee of $50 covers three practices and two days of racing. Thanks to Julia's husband Karl Rogge and another donor, we are able to offer several half-price seats on the team to Young Alums from the Classes of 2010 and 2009.
