Loaves and Fishes - St. Stephen & the Incarnation Episcopal Church

Washington, DC currently has the highest rate of homelessness of any city in the country. As recently as 2007, 11,762 people reported themselves as homeless.

Of these individuals, it is estimated that children account for approximately 25%. The Loaves and Fishes program at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church began during the 1960s, when many of the parishioners felt that feeding the hungry and the homeless in the St. Stephen’s neighborhood was the only decent thing to do. Over the years, many other congregations in the Diocese of Washington, other organizations, and private individuals have helped to serve meals to those in need.
