The George Washington University Invitational Regatta
Cornell's men's heavyweight crews will be in nine races during this year's George Washington Invitational Regatta, a part of the National Cherry Blossom Festival. The Varsity Eight, 2nd Varsity and 1st Freshman Eight will race against one University on Friday afternoon, April 9; against another on Saturday morning, April 10; and against yet another on Saturday afternoon.
h men's and women's crews from 12 different universities competing in the racing program this Regatta is the largest collegiate rowing competition in the Washington metropolitan area.Wear red, bring a neighbor or friend and cheer for the Big Red!
The Cornell Club's red tent will be in front of the Swedish Embassy, near the intersection of Rock Creek Parkway and Virginia Avenue, NW. This is close to the Finish Line at Washington Harbor in Georgetown, located near the 3000 block of K St., NW. The 2,000-meter, buoyed course begins near the Spout Run area of the Potomac River.
Men's squads from George Washington, Cornell, Georgetown, Gonzaga, Holy Cross, MIT, U.S. Naval Academy and UC San Diego will compete for the Oliver T. Carr Bowl. Women's teams competing in this regatta include George Washington, Central Florida, Columbia, Dayton, Georgetown, MIT, U.S. Naval Academy and Saint Joseph’s.
Friday Afternoon.
Women's races are scheduled to start at 1:00 pm on Friday afternoon. Men's races are scheduled to start at 3:10 pm. Preliminary scheduling, subject to change shows Cornell's three races (1st Frosh, 2nd Varsity and 1st Varsity) starting at about 3:30 pm on Friday.
Saturday Morning.
Women's dual meets will start at 8:00 am. Men's dual meets will start at about 10:10 am. Cornell will again be in 3 races, with the time yet to be determined.. There will be a lunch break from approximately Noon until 1:30 pm, provided everything goes according to the preliminary schedule.
Saturday Afternoon.
Women's dual meets will resume at about 1:30 pm and men's dual meets will start about 3:30, with times for Cornell's final three races yet to be determined. Incidentally, Cornell will not be rowing against Navy, since they will be meeting Navy one week later in Annapolis for the Goes Cup (Cornell, Syracuse, USNA)
