2009 Solar Decathlon
The Solar Decathlon is an international competition sponsored by the US Department of Energy in which teams from universities around the world construct energy efficient, commercially feasible solar-powered homes.
The Cornell University Solar Decathlon team entered the competition for the first time in 2005, achieving a second place finish out of eighteen teams. Cornell alumni and friends are encouraged to visit the event on the National Mall, open from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. weekends and 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. weekdays. Following tours of the house on Saturday, October 10, there will be an alumni reception featuring presentations by Cornell deans, professors and the CUSD student team.

As the largest student project at Cornell, the team is composed of more than 150 students from undergraduate and graduate colleges across campus. It is student-run with support from more than twenty faculty, staff and alumni.
This year's Solar Decathlon brings attention to one of the biggest challenges we face— an ever-increasing need for energy. As an internationally recognized event, it offers powerful solutions for using energy more efficiently and using energy from renewable sources.
