CCW Homecoming Tailgate
On the drive up to Ithaca, snow covered forest floors in view of the road began in Pennsylvania. Julie Grimaldi, currently matriculated in the Cornell in Washington Program, and Katherine Stifel '89 completed culinary errands and set up the red CCW tent in two adjacent parking spots on the Crescent in view of Schoellkopf.
Tina Gourley, Sr. Alumni Officer and a colleague from the Alumni Affairs Office, made an almost immediate appearance as soon as our tent was set up. We had old favorite visitors like Bob McKinless and current Board Member Jason Cho. We also had visits from Bob Metcalf of the Cornell Club of Rochester, and his wife. In the list of strange but true, we also had a visit from a ed lycra body suit clad mime. The Big Red Band marched by in its usual glory and sun finally broke through the October sky. The Big ed Team lost to Fordham but the Band performed a piece including the dramatic story of Zorro, and spelled out of Ezra’s famous “I would found an institution…” with the Cornell fans. Other Big Red Teams were honored for their excellence at halftime as well.
The CCW Tailgate served Chesapeake Bay grilled oysters and bacon as well as Maryland blue crab cakes and NY local fare: warmed Cornell Orchards Cider; apples and Concord grapes; Cornell Dairy Cheese curds; NY State Cheddar and fresh plums. Maple cream cookies rounded out the spread.
We gained a new member and enjoyed visits from new and old friends. Many who came by said how great it was to see our CCW presence at Homecoming.
