Housing, Credit Markets & the Economy
Real Estate markets – and housing in particular – have been at the core of our current economic crisis. On June 11, meet the man who gives Ben Bernanke advice on mortgage markets, courtesy of the Columbia Business School Alumni Club of Washington, D.C.
Prof. Chris Mayer, Vice Dean of the Faculty and Paul Milstein Professor of Real Estate at Columbia Business School, will discuss in detail two specific proposals that he has worked on to stem the decline in prices. His discussion will touch on the strengths and limitations of both government and private actors, including how he discovered a blind spot in the Fed’sability to monitor the situation, and how he managed to remedy the problem by purchasing private data and then modeling it to deliver policy prescriptions – the ultimate form of productive public-private partnership.
Doors open at 6:00pm – Registration, Cash Bar; Lecture at 6:30 -- 45 minutes, followed by Q&A.
