Tree Planting in D.C.

On Saturday, November 1, 2008 nine CCW volunteers were on hand for this year’s fall tree planting with Casey Trees. We were treated to terrific weather as we helped put 5 willow oaks in the ground, each of which will grow to 40 or 50 feet in height over the next 5 years. It was hard but rewarding work, providing us with the opportunity to labor side-by-side with the current/future owners of newhomes being built by Habitat for Humanity in northeast DC.
Sincere thanks go to volunteers Ted Gumer and friend Gabi, Hanching Wang, Charlotte McDonald, and Nathaniel Berman as well as Citizen Foresters Diana and Bob Day ’56 and Community Service Chair Phil Collins ’74 for organizing this invigorating event.
