Old Rag Hike XLVI · Rescheduled
For the first time in the history of Cornell Club of Washington hikes to Old Rag, we postponed the hike twice. This factoid was confirmed by none other than hike creator Bob McKinless '48. For our third try, however, the weather cooperated spectacularly. In mid-70s temperatures and sunny skies, we embarked up the mountain with sunlight cascading through multi-colored leaves, both on trees and falling among us. With almost no haze, we could see for miles around.
In total, 19 alums and 7 friends and family members converged in Sperryville and the Old Rag parking lot for our semiannual event. Many thanks to George Rogers '79 for the bagels at the Emporium in Sperryville (served off a car hood!), Alyson Taylor MLA '00 and Christine Kennefick GRAD '91 for helping with carpooling (Alyson all the way from Baltimore!), many other alums who were willing to help with carpooling or who carpooled with friends and family (Al Gore gives you a high five), and Nick Woodward '70 for helping once again to lead the hike and navigate first-time hikers through the infamous chimney scramble.
