Optional Lunch at 12:15 pm at National Academy of Sciences
Constitution Avenue and 21st Street NW

The Diplomatic Reception Rooms are among the most beautiful rooms in the world used for official entertaining. In this setting the Secretary of State, the Vice President, and Members of the Cabinet entertain the leaders of the world as well as foreign and American dignitaries.  These rooms house a premier collection of early American paintings, furniture, and decorative arts, dating from 1740 until the late 19th century. The new Curator, Marcee Craighill, has made some significant changes and the tour now gives greater emphasis to the roles these important furnishings have played in U.S. diplomatic history.

Cornell Club group tours have become a mini-tradition ever since then Secretary of State William P. Rogers (1969-73) and his wife Adele, both distinguished Cornellians first invited our club to tour the 8th floor.

Tightened security procedures have made it difficult to organize luncheons inside the State Department in connection with these tours.  Fortunately the National Academies, located directly across the street, have an excellent cafeteria where those of us who want to have lunch together can meet prior to our tour at State.  A brief look at the National Academy of Sciences headquarters building and its Great Hall is also being arranged.

Cost: free. no-host cafeteria lunch (optional) $5-$9.

To Attend: Register now, and include your full legal name as it appears on your photo ID.  Bring your ID to the tour.
